Dyslexia Awards Winner!

Lorraine Walsh was delighted to win the 2020 Learning Support category at the Dyslexia Awards.

Lorraine was nominated for this award by Holly Swinton, a fellow professional. Holly’s citation for Lorraine included the following statement:

“Most dyslexia tutors follow a particular programme and teach the same lessons in the same way. Not Lorraine! Every lesson is different, every child or teenager gets what they need, in just the way they need it”

But what swung the decision for Lorraine with the judges were the many accolades she received from her students' parents. Lorraine was blown away by the lovely things said about her!

Below are extracts from just some of the many submissions to the judges:

“Lorraine has shown nothing but compassion and encouragement for my children. It is a testament to her approach that both children loved having their sessions with her … I have nothing but praise for Lorraine – she has a genuine interest in every child reaching their full potential”  Nadine T

“My nine year old has been seeing Lorraine for a year. Both her parents and her teachers have noticed a huge difference in my daughter's writing. My daughter is autistic but stays focused in her sessions with Lorraine”  Caroline A

“I have been so impressed with the progress my son has made and by the fantastic support we have received from Lorraine, that I have recommended several friends to her for tutoring, they too are always impressed with her warmth, professionalism and positivity towards dyslexia”  Lorraine McC

“… Lorraine was endlessly patient, kind, conscientious and methodical. My son has told me that Lorraine was always kind and nice to him and that counts for so much when a child has dyslexia. ln the past, I believe my son has felt 'incapable' and Lorraine has improved his confidence. She also supported me through the times I felt fear and despair!”  Amanda G

“Lorraine went out of her way to put my son at ease and really worked on building his confidence and understanding of his dyslexia. The strategies and techniques Lorraine uses really work and the lessons my son has undertaken over the past three years have helped him make a significant improvement in his literacy skills”  Jenny S

“Lorraine worked with my son for twelve months. She not only supported him with his dyslexia but she improved his confidence and self esteem”  Nicki W

“… Immediately, I saw my daughter’s confidence grow, Lorraine went back to basics and took her on a learning journey that made a huge impact on both my daughter’s confidence and her way of learning. Lorraine, set targets that added real value and she made sure that my daughter was supported throughout. Lorraine has always gone the extra mile in all that she does and for that we will always be very grateful”  Deborah R

“Lorraine has been tutoring my son for about two years and she has made all the difference. In his words, ‘Although I don’t like having to go and do extra work, I can tell that Lorraine has really helped me improve - particularly with my spelling. I even got 100% in a test recently which has never happened before.’ … Lorraine is endlessly patient, an absolute expert and knows exactly how to handle my son, keeping the fun in learning wherever possible. I also really appreciate how willing she is to support him in line with what school are doing, which gives him extra confidence”  Claire F
